book talk: the cullens
Oops, I forgot about this today. But I’m back and ready to go.
So here is my question. Do you think the Cullen’s really blend in at high-school? I know for the books sake they do just enough to attend school but do you think that’s plausible? If you think it’s not what would you change about the books to make it more plausible?

i don’t know..but back in high school I don’t think i would have noticed so much…I mean plenty of goth kids wore super pale makeup..we had the punks who wore crazy stuff….I mean what’s one family of really hot pale kids who camp on sunny days? plus, apparently they had the dazzle thing going…what high school doesn’t have the untouchables? Plus, i was a band/music theory geekette with pink streaks in my hair..definitely not attracting uber hotties…….plus, we didn’t have anything that hot…I would have noticed…

I thought of this very thing, just lately. I think what I wonder is why some of them even bother going! Like Jasper — isn’t it tortuous for him, being around everyone while he’s still working on his control? Given that (BREAKING DAWN SPOILER ALERT!!!) we know that they are able to get any IDs/papers that they need — I do wonder why they bother. Maybe they don’t know what else to do with themselves?
Honestly — I was so very enthralled when I first read the books that I didn’t think of any of this. These thoughts only occurred to me after reading the books several times each.

Well, I actually think they do blend in. Everybody looks different in High school. Everybody dresses different too since everyone comes from different backgrounds and money. And also there are always groups in High school formed, “the populars” “the geeks” and whatever others. So yes, I think they blend in, but having said that the question is WHY? They know everything, they are vampires that have been to school many, many times and are super smart and above humans in every way. And also they can stay still without the need to move for who knows how long so why put up with having to keep a charade? Seriously, not that I am lazy but if I could stay still without having to do anything at all I would seriously just be.

I beleive that they blend in since most kids had their own lil ‘groups’ to hang with… but what was a bit odd was the fact that everyone knew that Cullens/Hales were ‘dating’ and living together – if they were trying so hard not to attract attention, then I think that they would have been a lil more discreet about being coupled… as to why they would go as far as to go to school – don’t vamps get bored very easily, especially since their always awake… I’d be looking to keep busy as much as possible

I agree that they could blend in now but not “back in my day” LOL. And as for ditching class – even in my day…kids did that regularly.
